This year’s Standards for Professional Learning Week showcased educational leaders and field practitioners in various roles who  shared how effective educator professional learning can provide solutions to many of today’s challenges in K-12 education.

Elizabeth Foster is the senior vice president of research and strategy at Learning Forward. She leads the organization’s research efforts for partnerships, programs, and fundraising. Elizabeth co-wrote the Standards for Professional Learning (2022) with Tracy Crow and now facilitates learning sessions about the standards and develops resources that support their use and implementation.

Jacquelyn Mariott has studied teacher leadership, middle school math education, and elementary education. She currently serves as an instructional math coach in Montgomery County Public Schools, coaching middle school math PLC's in the implementation of Illustrative Math. Jacque has taught in three counties and in three states. She has taught, served as a department head, principal, and an instructional coach in her 20 years in education.

Jennifer Loznak is in her second year as Supervisor of Secondary Mathematics for Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland. She has spent all 21 years of her educational career in Montgomery County Public Schools. Mrs. Loznak started as a high school math teacher, and since then she has served as a high school math leader, middle school teacher, staff development teacher, learning and achievement specialist, and secondary math instructional specialist. New for the 2023-2024 school year, Mrs. Loznak supervised four middle school instructional math coaches who supported schools to implement the Illustrative Math curriculum with integrity.

Malaika Stewart is the Math Content Specialist at Shady Grove Middle School in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and a National Board Certified teacher. Ms. Stewart has been a middle school math teacher for 27 years in D.C. public schools and Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland.
