When I was in elementary school, I loved celebrating Valentine’s Day. I remember picking out the right pack of cards, taking extra care to choose just the right one for my crush, laboriously scrawling my name, and then getting cards from classmates. Valentine’s Day was just a thrilling, feel-good celebration. Somewhere along the way Valentine’s Day lost its luster for me, becoming too commercialized and romanticized. Today, though, with all the negativity that surrounds us in the news and social media, Valentine’s Day seems like a much needed reminder that we could use more love in the world.
