Learning Forward’s Michelle Bowman, Elizabeth Foster, and Shannon Bogle will present a session at the Improvement in Education Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 7, 2025. They will copresent with Jessica Slayton, Amber Thienel, and Tyrunya Goodwin from Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.
Their session, “Leveraging continuous improvement and collaborative networks to support HQIM implementation,” will help participants explore how Learning Forward’s Curriculum-Based Professional Learning (CBPL) Network and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools’ Open Up Resources (OUR) Network are using improvement strategies to advance the effectiveness of curriculum-based professional learning to positively affect teaching and learning for all students in mathematics.
The session is designed for educators, coaches, leaders, and professional learning designers who want to deepen their use of continuous improvement strategies within curriculum-based professional learning. It will include small-group discussions and time to explore applications to participants’ local settings.
Curriculum-based professional learning supports educators’ knowledge of how to utilize everything a high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum has to offer. It is a specific type of professional learning anchored in instructional materials, in which teachers experience the curriculum and activities in the same way their students will and adapt their teaching practices accordingly.
Learning Forward’s CBPL Network launched in 2023 with three districts: the School District of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania; Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland; and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in Tennessee. Teams of educators from the three districts are working toward shared goals of improved teaching and curriculum implementation and increased student learning.
