Nader I. Twal serves as Assistant to the Superintendent in the Office of the Superintendent in Long Beach Unified School District — the fourth largest in CA. An experienced and published Liberatory Designer, Design Thinker, Milken National Educator, and CA Association of Teachers of English in Teaching Awardee, Nader bridges the gap between theory and action, with a body of work that demonstrates the power of listening first and designing second.
Nader Twal was born in the United States, but his Jordanian parents moved the family to the Middle East when he was two years old. When Nader was 13, his parents relocated the family back to the United States to provide better opportunities for their children. While in college at UC Davis, Nader spent a summer in San Jose working with students who were underserved and underprivileged, and this experience changed the trajectory of his life. Believing education is the bedrock of democracy, Nader served nine years as a classroom teacher, two years as a site-level program coordinator and teacher leader, and five years as High School Central Office Linked Learning Coordinator, and ten years as a Program Administrator of Professional Learning and Curriculum Services in Long Beach, California.
Nader completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University in December 2023, focusing his dissertation on the potential for Liberatory Design to build the transformative leadership capacity of central office administrators.
