Denise Augustine
Denise Augustine is currently seconded to the Ministry of Education where she is leading professional learning for ministry staff and supporting school districts in addressing systemic barriers so that schools can better serve Indigenous learners. The challenges imposed through the response to COVID has made it even more important for educators to work together and listen deeply to the learners and families they serve. Drawing on her knowledge and experience as a Coast Salish woman, and with over 25 years experience as an educator, Augustine carefully weaves story and research together, inviting adults to open their hearts and minds and imagine a community that values diversity and designs for inclusion. Recipient of the 2016 Indspire Indigenous Educator Award, Augustine is an active participant in the local, national and global conversations about Indigenous education. She has been a keynote speaker for BC School Superintendents Association, BC Council of Administrators of Inclusive Support in Education, BC Association of School Business Officials, and was a keynote for the 2016 Learning Forward Annual Conference.
