    To close learning gaps, address social and emotional skills: ONLINE EXCLUSIVE

    In the face of enormous concern for children’s learning and development in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, much of the educational response has focused on accelerating academic learning. But children’s social and emotional skills have suffered as well. A growing body of research confirms what educators already know from observations of their own classrooms and students: Children are struggling with classroom routines, social interaction, and emotion and behavior management (e.g., National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2023; Hanno et al., 2021) and engaging in high levels of acting out and disruptive behavior.
