Enthusiasm for learning fuels host committee chair

Peter Carpenter is director of organizational development and continuous learning for Harford County Public Schools in Maryland. He is also the host committee chair for the 2023 Learning Forward Annual Conference Dec. 4-7 in Washington, D.C. His previous roles include teacher, elementary curriculum and instruction supervisor, and principal. What professional learning means to him: The whole reason I love education is because, at its heart, it’s about learning. I love learning. I see myself as a lead learner and developer. I once had a superintendent who said, “If learning’s a wave, we always want to stay on the tip.” For so many years, that’s what I’ve aspired to do. Peter Carpenter (pcin2teaching@gmail.com) is a veteran educator with a 30-year track record of positively impacting public education in Harford County Public Schools, Maryland. During this time he has served in numerous roles, from teacher to coach; from principal to Director of Organizational Development. No matter the role, Peter's focus remains to joyfully equip and empower educators to better serve their students. Now residing in Clermont, Florida, Peter has launched his own company, Leadwise Coaching and Consulting whose mission is to help educators and leaders take their leadership or instructional vision to victory. An ICF and Gallup certified coach, Peter is also a past president of Learning Forward, Maryland, and has served Learning Forward national as a member of their Conference Planning Committee, Host Committee Chair in 2023, and is currently a member of the class of 2026 Learning Forward Academy. He has presented at the national conference three times; twice as a pre-conference presenter.
