Paul Fleming, Learning Forward’s chief knowledge officer, appeared on the In the Lead with UCEA podcast from the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA). During the episode, “Steering Education Towards Effective Leadership,” Fleming talked with UCEA executive director Mónica Byrne-Jiménez about the important role of professional learning for educational leaders, including the value of cohesive principal pipelines. He also discussed the significance of the Standards for Professional Learning and how they are being adopted by states and educational systems.
Fleming said, “We know that there’s a lot of pockets of excellence that schools, systems, and higher ed institutions engage in. But without that kind of cohesive and comprehensive set of standards, the danger is then you have a lack of common language. You have silos happening in a way that perpetuates practices that are not always evidence-based.”
UCEA is a consortium of university-based, pre-K-12 leadership preparation programs committed to supporting educational organizations. A community of researchers, faculty, and practitioners, the consortium is dedicated to the improvement of pre-K-12 educational leadership, policy, and organizations, including conducting and disseminating research that benefits schools, communities, and society.
