Associate Editor, Publications
Learning Forward seeks an associate editor to join our dynamic communications team and contribute to our field-leading publications.
Reports to:
Senior Vice President of communications and publications
Major responsibilities:
1. Creates content for The Learning Professional magazine
- Writes articles, research summaries, and tools
- Conducts and writes up interviews for member spotlight and other features
- Creates a discussion guide for each issue of the magazine
- Works with designer on creating infographics
2. Supports publication processes for The Learning Professional
- Supports The Learning Professional editor in choosing themes, reviewing submissions, and editing articles
- Develops and implements dissemination strategies and campaigns for The Learning Professional issues, including outreach to field leaders and organizations relevant to the issue theme
- Organizes Twitter chats and webinars to promote The Learning Professional issues and other publications
- Facilitates communication with authors when needed
3. Implements publication strategy for Learning Forward books
- Provides developmental editing for books
- Collaborates with authors, designers, publishers, and other partners to create high-quality products
- Works with marketing and communications teams to create dissemination strategies
- Provides occasional copyediting support
4. Creates content and products related to Standards for Professional Learning
- Contributes to standards content and product strategy development
- Writes and edits content for standards products
- Serves as production liaison for standards products
- Contributes standards-based and aligned content for various Learning Forward outlets
5. Supports dissemination of and feedback on publications
- Seeks reader and member feedback through surveys, interviews, and other formats
- Engages with district members to determine how publications and products can serve and support them
- Supports the annual member survey process
- With other team members, tracks analytics about publications to inform internal strategy and reporting to funders
- Supports social media team in promotion efforts related to The Learning Professional and other publications and products.
6. Engages as an active and collaborative team member
- Provides additional publications support as needed. Projects may include grant reports, Learning Forward blog, and other resources
- Participates in collaborative planning and decision-making
- Completes annual growth plan and professional development process
- Seeks to continuously improve work processes and methods to increase effectiveness and efficiency
- Works in compliance with staff agreements, employee policies, budget, and protocols
- Exemplifies professionalism in all work
Qualifications:
- Two or more years writing for an audience of educators or other professionals
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Experience in education or a related field
- Experience with creating tools and resources for educators a plus
- B.A. in a related field
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
