Campaign tapping into educator voices was honored at the 2023 Nonprofit Communications Awards luncheon in New York City
Dallas, Texas – September 28, 2023 – Learning Forward, the preeminent global membership association devoted to high-quality professional learning for educators, was recognized as a finalist in PR Daily’s 2023 Nonprofit Communications Awards in the Social Media Campaign category.
PR Daily’s Nonprofit Communications Awards recognizes organizations and teams who have excelled in using the power of effective communication to advocate for, build awareness of, and raise funds for important causes and initiatives.
Ariel Durham, Learning Forward’s director of digital marketing, and Anthony Armstrong, Learning Forward’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, celebrated the achievement September 28 at the Yale Club in Midtown Manhattan during a sold-out awards celebration recognizing the best communications work from the past year. Learning Forward was selected as a finalist from a field of impressive entries for its work engaging educators in facilitated discussion on social media platforms that helped drive a measurable boost in awareness around high-quality professional learning that equips educators to meet the needs of all students.
Durham designed the campaign’s strategy to tap into a prominent online community of voices from teachers, researchers, professional learning directors, and leaders to inspire an exchange of diverse viewpoints about high-quality professional learning strategies on Learning Forward’s X (formerly Twitter) account and LinkedIn. The question prompting the online discussion, originally from Dean Shareski, was, “Teachers are overwhelmed and tired and teachers still need and want to learn. To that end, how do we design professional learning that equally honors both of those truths?” More than 84,000 people have viewed the post and hundreds wrote responses, which Durham shared in a blog post that quickly surpassed Learning Forward’s most popular blog posts for 2022 and 2023 in terms of total and unique pageviews.
The blog shared some of the campaign’s best responses about professional learning, organized into six themes that emerged from the online discussion. Durham offered Learning Forward resources with each theme.
“I am thrilled that Ariel has received well-deserved industry recognition for her exceptional contributions to marketing and communications that make a difference,” said Frederick Brown, Learning Forward president & CEO. “Teachers value learning from their peers and hearing about best practices from the field. Through leveraging the authority of prominent voices in professional learning, Ariel successfully facilitated an invaluable collection of professional learning insights and resources that will serve educators for years to come.”
