Dallas, Texas – Dec. 18, 2019
Denise Glyn Borders, president and CEO of Learning Forward, issued the following statement about the 2020 Congressional appropriations bill passed on 12/16/19:
“Learning Forward is pleased that, for the first time in a decade, Title II-A will receive a significant increase with this week’s passage of Congress’s 2020 appropriations bill. Title II-A is the nation’s major source of federal funding for professional learning and school leadership development. Learning Forward’s members and allies were successful in making the case that professional learning is essential to increasing teaching quality for student success.
Though short of the House’s appropriations increase for Title IIA, the $76 million is nonetheless a milestone for Learning Forward, our nation’s educators, and the program itself. This 3.7% increase is the highest percentage increase among any of the major title programs, including Title I. We thank Congress for this victory and look forward to visiting with our elected leaders in the coming year to share with them our new goal of a Title II-A increase every year. Our educators need and deserve an increasing level of support in every funding bill.”
