Professional learning inspired by the forest, not the factory: ONLINE EXCLUSIVE

Educators often hear the call to move beyond the “factory model” of education, but what does that really mean? And more importantly, what are we moving toward? The vast landscape of theories and frameworks for professional learning offer many possibilities, yet many remain complex, abstract, and challenging to implement. Terms like “transformational,” “experiential,” and “holistic” inspire us, but they often feel difficult to translate into practical, actionable designs for professional learning. Clarity is the one thing the factory learning metaphor has going for it. It is easy to imagine the design of this kind of learning: linear, highly structured, and compartmentalized.
