Facilitators:

Bryan A. VanGronigen, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Education specializing in Educational Leadership in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. His overarching research focus is on organizational resilience and change management in K-12 schools with specific interest areas in efforts to improve schools, the preparation and professional development of educational leaders, and educational policy analyses. Currently, he is working on projects related to state education agencies (SEAs), in-service professional development experiences for educational leaders, and the school improvement planning process. His research has been published in a range of highly-selective academic journals like the American Journal of Education, Educational Policy, the Journal of Research on Leadership Education, Teachers College Record, and Urban Education, in practitioner outlets like the federally funded Center on School Turnaround, and in trade magazines like the Phi Delta Kappan and Educational Leadership.

Principal Brian Wallace has been an educator for 19 years. He began his career in Baltimore County Public Schools as a high school mathematics teacher before joining Howard County Public School System in 2007 where he taught math and social studies. He has transformed his school and SIP to lead the community in making the school a positive place in which teaching and learning thrive. He is now serving as principal of Lake Elkhorn Middle School.

Paul Fleming, Ed.D., serves as chief learning officer at Learning Forward. His current areas of focus include leading the effective implementation of the revised Standards for Professional Learning and corresponding tools, the expansion of our professional services and leadership and learning series teams, and multiple consulting projects with states and districts to increase educator and leader effectiveness through equity-focused, high-quality professional learning. Prior to joining Learning Forward, he served as the assistant commissioner for the Teachers and Leaders Division at the Tennessee Department of Education. He was responsible for the design, implementation, evaluation, and support of impactful policies, practices, and programs related to teacher and leader preparation institutions, licensure, evaluation and development, and educator talent.
