Dallas, Texas – November 29, 2023 – Learning Forward is pleased to announce two of its leaders are making news though sharing their expertise of high-quality professional learning to benefit the field.

Elizabeth Foster is published in Cognia’s The Source Magazine

Elizabeth Foster, Learning Forward’s senior vice president for research, published an article in the latest issue of The Source, a digital magazine focused on education thought leadership. In “Teacher PD for a New Era,” Foster demystifies Standards for Professional Learning and discusses how school systems can use the standards to approach professional learning systemically. “Throughout the development of a comprehensive learning plan, district staff conduct focus groups and survey educators at all levels to learn firsthand how professional learning occurs in schools, obtain feedback on the current system, and gather input on the development of the plan,” Foster writes. “The desired outcome is a plan for professional learning that provides coherence from central office to schools so that educators at all levels are working together toward a shared vision of quality teaching and learning.” The Standards Assessment Inventory, she adds, is the valid, reliable tool districts can use to assess how well their system is aligned to the standards. Michelle Bowman is chosen to present at the Carnegie Foundation Summit in March 2024

Michelle Bowman, Learning Forward’s senior vice president of networks and continuous improvement, submitted a winning proposal and will present a full-day preconference course at the Carnegie Foundation Summit 2024, March 24-27, in San Diego, California. Her session, “Continuous Improvement is Professional Learning,” will focus on continuous improvement as a high-impact design for educator professional learning. “It’s an honor to be chosen to present at the 2024 Carnegie Foundation Summit and facilitate action-oriented discussions centering professional learning as a critical equity lever in continuous improvement practices to build better systems to ensure all students and teachers experience what they need to learn,” said Bowman. “I especially enjoy attending The Summit because it gives me a chance to connect and learn with a diverse learning community of educators committed to innovation and improvement. We share strategies, processes, and the stories of our journeys as we seek to better serve teachers, students, and communities.” The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching describes its annual Summit as a celebration of progress, and a place where people unite to “learn from colleagues who are closing gaps, recommit to the equity challenges that unite us as a profession, and prepare for our next collective steps.” More about Bowman’s session here.
