Learning Forward Executive Director Stephanie Hirsh issued a statement about the bipartisan conference bill that funds defense, labor, health, human services, and education.
“I applaud the bipartisan and bicameral agreement on the FY19 spending bill that provides level funding for Title IIA of ESSA, which funds critical support so educators can meet the needs of every student in their classrooms. I’m encouraged that both houses of Congress recognize the importance of investing in teachers and students by providing $2.1 billion to this essential program.
“I urge Congress to pass the bill immediately so President Trump can sign it into law. There should be no question about sustaining support for Title IIA. These funds are crucial to providing intensive, sustained, classroom-focused professional development for educators as redefined in ESSA.”
