It is critical that today’s educators understand and the conditions, content, and processes for professional learning that lead to high-quality leading, teaching, and learning for students and educators. 

The revised Standards for Professional Learning, released by Learning Forward in April 2022, provide schools, systems, and policymakers with a roadmap that leads to educators and students having equitable access to powerful learning. The standards offer educators the latest knowledge and insights to design, implement, and sustain high-quality professional learning systems.

Introduction to Standards for Professional Learning is a two-week online course providing educators an overview of the revised standards and the key frames that describe the essential content of adult learning, process elements of professional learning, and aspects of the professional learning context, structures, and cultures that undergird high-quality professional learning.

Facilitated by Learning Forward Vice President of Standards Implementation and Outreach Machel Mills-Miles, this course is designed for any person interested in understanding the importance of a systemic approach to professional learning. The course shows how the Standards for Professional Learning help define and contribute to fulfilling that vision. Through this course, learners will have a deeper understanding of the value of a systemic approach to professional learning, will be able to explain the connection between the Standards for Professional Learning and student outcomes, and will understand how educators in different roles use the standards to enhance their work with professional learning.
