Are you a district professional learning leader charged with effectively implementing Title II, Part A (Title II-A) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act? Are you a district leader committed to ensuring comprehensive system improvement through high-quality professional learning? Are you a district leader with questions about maximizing the use of your federal Title II-A dollars? If you play a role in professional learning or Title II-A implementation, we encourage you to join us for Learning Forward’s Title II-A Symposium on July 22-23 at Miami-Dade College-Padron Campus in Florida.

Title II-A is the only federal funding source dedicated to professional learning for teachers and leaders. The program provides over $2 billion per year to states, which then pass the funds on to districts to implement effective instruction through the preparation, recruitment, and development of educators.

District leaders are on the front line to make strategic, evidence-based decisions about the Title II-A funding they receive to improve teaching and learning for all students. Understanding how standards-aligned professional learning can be supported through Title II-A, knowing what activities are allowable, strategizing about how to use these dollars to effectively align to district priorities, and understanding and documenting the impact these dollars can have on improving teacher practice and bolstering student achievement are all responsibilities of district leaders. We want to help.

In February, more than 70 state and system leaders and Title II grant managers gathered for Learning Forward’s inaugural Title II-A Symposium in Arlington, Va. Participants represented 13 states and Washington, D.C.

Attendees reported that the symposium provided valuable learning. One said, “The big picture overview and the clear connection between all topics discussed worked well for helping us gain a deeper understanding of Title II. (The symposium) provided a nice balance between hearing info, having time to collaborate with others, and having time to get our specific questions answered.”

The symposium will be facilitated by Heather Sauers, Edvance Collective CEO and Title II-A expert, and Machel-Mills Miles, Learning Forward vice president of standards implementation & outreach. In addition to offering two-day symposia, Learning Forward provides ongoing support on Title II-A planning, implementation, and evaluation.
