2017 Elections Results

Thank you to the members who voted in this year’s board election. Your newly elected trustees will take office at the end of the annual conference beginning December 7, 2017 and will serve a three-year term as a member of the board.

Congratulations to newly elected trustees Shawn Joseph, director of Metro Nashville Public Schools of Nashville, Tennessee and Wendy Robinson, superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools in Fort Wayne, Indiana (see bios below). They will join Valeria Brown (FL), Steve Cardwell (CAN), Sharon Contreras (NC), Alan Ingram (OK), Scott Laurence (CA), Monica Martinez (CA), and Leigh Wall (TX) to lead Learning Forward in attaining its vision of excellent teaching and learning every day as well as in continuing on its mission to build the capacity of leaders to establish and sustain highly effective professional learning.

As the new trustees begin their service, John Eyolfson of Cherry Creek School District, Centennial, Colorado will depart the board having served three-years as trustee from 2013-2015 and as a board officer from 2015-2017. Eyolfson served the association as President in 2016.  



    SHAWN JOSEPH is the director of Metro Nashville Public Schools. He is an experienced educator who has fought for excellence and equity for every student he has served in his more than 20-year career. Joseph has served as a teacher, principal, district administrator, deputy superintendent, and superintendent. Before moving to Nashville, he was the head of teaching and learning in Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland. Prior to that, he was the superintendent of the Seaford County District in Seaford, Delaware. He is also a published author and researcher, with articles in top peer-reviewed journals of education on topics like strategic planning and principal development. In 2012, Joseph published the book The Principal’s Guide to the First 100 Days of the School Year: Creating Instructional Momentum. He was responsible for enrolling his school system in Learning Forward’s Student Success Learning Network (formerly Redesign PD Communities of Practice) and participates in the annual team convening.



    WENDY ROBINSON is superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In her 35 years with the district, she has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, central office administrator, and deputy superintendent. She was appointed to the position of superintendent in July 2003. Robinson is a Broad Academy Fellow and a recipient of the National Alliance of Black School Educators 2009 Joseph E. Hill Superintendent of the Year. She serves on numerous boards as an active member of her community and has formed partnerships with local agencies and businesses to increase educational opportunities. Robinson was appointed to the Learning Forward Redesign PD Partnership in 2014. She is a former summer conference keynote speaker, conference presenter, and contributing author to Learning Forward journals and books. Robinson was selected this year by the state of Indiana as its 2018 Superintendent of the Year.
