Plan backward to move forward with a logic model

More and more school principals are stepping into the role of learning leader in their schools, modeling and supporting improvement for both educators and students. When my colleagues Kay Psencik, Stephanie Hirsh, and I (Psencik at al., 2020) wrote The Learning Principal: Becoming a Learning Leader, our goal was to give principals and those who support them a set of practical tools and resources they could use to move learning forward in their schools. We dedicated an entire chapter to managing change with a focus on the importance of measuring learning. When schools pursue change, whether it’s a new curriculum, an updated observation framework, or a deeper commitment to meeting the learning needs of all students or staff, it often begins with energy and optimism.
