Past President

Alan Ingram is an education consultant and has state and district-level systems improvement experience in educational leadership, policy creation, program implementation, and strategic partnerships. Most recently, he served for three years as deputy commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education where he provided executive level leadership to the Commissioner and chair of the Massachusetts Board of Education on all policy matters related to advancing the Commonwealth's education agenda to prepare all public school students for success in college, career, and life.

Previously, Alan served as superintendent of Public Schools in Springfield, Massachusetts, a district serving nearly 26,000 students in 44 schools. He has also served in a variety of executive leaderships roles that included director of federal programs for Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS), a district at which time served more than 38,000 students in 80 schools.

Prior to transitioning to public education, Alan served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 22 years, where he attained the rank of chief master sergeant, a rank to which only one percent of enlisted officers ascend. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland University College, a Master of Arts from Webster University, and a Doctor of Education in Education Administration, Curriculum, and Supervision from the University of Oklahoma.

Alan is sought as a presenter at state and national conferences and is a 2007 Broad Superintendents Academy Fellow. He and his wife Lisa, a National Board Certified Teacher and 2013 OKCPS Teacher of the Year finalist, make their home in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

Why I Value Learning Forward

My introduction to Learning Forward came more than 20 years ago while using its exceptional consultation services. The organizations I’ve served and the educators with whom I’ve served have benefited immensely by participation in Learning Forward’s annual conferences, summer institutes, immersion in the standards of professional learning, and access to other continuous improvement resources and publications. But, most importantly, by concerted efforts to improve the practice of all educators, students have been the direct beneficiaries. I am honored to serve on the Board of Trustees.
